The layouts in this section are all made to fit a 4' by 6' surface. They use an overall area larger than Doorway layouts, being 12 or more inches wider but 8 inches shorter. The 4' by 6' has the advantage of smaller size, yet with enough depth to allow a more complete railway. Granted, it is still small, but the creative railfan can do wonders with it. These layouts have two purposes:
1) To stand alone as an independent layout. In this, they are a perfectly small enough size for limited space, and for portable layouts. The 4' by 6' also affords just enough size to O Gauge to allow and enjoyable layout.
2) To be adapted as an extension to a larger layouts. Any of these layouts can be added to an existing O railroad. They are like adding an entire theme and section, rather than just extending the existing trackplan by adding track. Most layouts will be relatively easy to append.
Note that in small spaces, some fudging, budging and in rare cases cutting of track may be needed for a good fit. I have done what I can to minimize your having to cut track. However, as some types of track have a less consistent manufacture, you may have to apply a hacksaw.
3D illustrations and a list of scenery used is included, so you can see how I developed my layouts. You need not replicate scenery and accessories. You can substitute, use other items, or alter the scenery and accessories altogether.
