Quality Control
Every production line has its goofs. Even the best assembly line can occasionally make a defective item. That is why factories and other production lines have quality control. Items are checked to make sure they are up to standards.
Defects may be caused by a fluke in the process or a substandard raw material. Either way, each production line has its own ways to detect and remove imperfect items. It may range from a simple test to sending samples for a full laboratory examination. Sometimes factory failures get out of control. Recalls are the remedy when a flaw bypasses factory testing and gets onto the market. At this time, there is the problem of Toyota gas pedals. Back in 2,000 Firestone tires were recalled en masse.
We see that Wyrd appears to have its flukes, as well. However, these flukes are part of the cross-current described mythically as a “cross-weave.” What might seem a perfect “Cause to Effect” forward motion is affected by lateral currents. Because of the sideways influences, there is no perfect Cause to Effect. Things are skewed to a greater or lesser degree, depending on the force and size of the cross current. Just as unseen defects happen on the assembly line, so unforeseen difficulties can come from Wyrd.
What seems like a totally capricious thing on one level is revealed to be the reasonable consequence of a cross current on a higher level. It is like a volcano or earthquake. These seismic evens seem to be the very essence of chaos to those who experience them directly. On a planetary level, they are the natural consequence of the flow of magma and the movement of tectonic plates. In effect, they are the safety valves which release excess force, thus allowing the smooth operation of the planet’s crust.
We can often predict Cause to Effect, but the ability to perceive the actual flow of cross currents is elusive.
