Substance and Fehu
The Fehu Rune’s essence is that which underlies all assets. It is that which gives value. The metaphysicians knew it as substance. We know it as Fehu. It is the foundation of value.
There are many factors that go into giving a thing value. Quality, quantity, need and availability are but a few factors that affect value. Even then, each thing has its own innate worth. We might say that the value is the amount of “substance” that is standing behind it.
People or conditions can create an inflated value. This is not the true value, but an artificial one. It might be driven by investors, falsified by trick accounting, or simply mis-stated. The inflated value is at odds with the true value. It does not take much to make the inflated value collapse like a house of cards. The fall usually dips below the true value, though the true value is eventually reasserted.
The current economic crisis is an example of true value versus inflated value. Inflated real estate values, the mortgage crisis, Enron, Worldcom, and the recent rise and fall of oil are all instances where inflated value collapsed. One might liken it to a poker game where the Fehu Rune calls inflated value’s bluff.
The problem is not substance. Fehu always gives a true value. The problem happens when people try to inflate value artificially. Our current economic crisis is a prime example of what happens when inflated values collapse.
A benefit of working with the Fehu Rune is that it always runs true. You get true value. It is a strong foundation on which to build. In times like these, we are reminded of what happens when true value gets lost in the shuffle. The only sure course is to stay as close to the true value as you can.
