Decision and the Tyr Rune

The Tyr Rune is the principle behind planning, strategy and tactics. It is also a Rune of victory through effort. There we see the difference between mere intellectual activity and action. Without effort, planning is just an intellectual exercise. It is nothing but thoughts. The Tyr Rune takes thoughts and translates them into effective action.

The thing that stands at the crux between thought and action is described by one word: decision. It is more than choice. It is making a choice upon which you will act. No room exists here for theoretical matters or speculation. Tyr Rune type decision makes its choice as it takes that first step forward. It is a thought that moves all with it. Decision is the idea that implements those plans, tactics and strategies. They are changed from schemes into actions.

The greatest leaders of all time had the power of decision. They may not have made the best decision every time, but they made a decision and set it into motion. The many people who are indecisive are a contrast to those who choose and act. Decision gives initiative, and initiative gives you first bite at the time and place of your choice.

Decision must fit the situation. The truth is that the right decision is not always something that feels good. There are occasions when the right decision is uncomfortable, unpleasant, and distasteful. On the other hand, the consequences of any other decision would be far worse to bear. Decision takes the courage to make your best choice even when doing so is unpleasant. Fortunately, most decisions are not distasteful.

Many a plan and strategy has stayed on the drawing board because its author failed to act. The Tyr Rune principle applies action to plans. Within the Rune is the matter of decision. Plans and strategies are only good when they are implemented. Decision is the thing that turns plans into action. Use it wisely, but by all means use it.
