Strong as Urus

The Urus Rune is considered a Rune of strength. Many assume it is physical strength. They are only partially correct. Urus is the essence underlying strength. One might say that strength is a manifestation of the Rune.

When it comes to Urus, strong is a very useful word for describing its nature. The idea of being physically strong is something that is easy to understand. We can see and feel physical strength in our own bodies. However, that is only one manifestation of Urus. Think of other uses of strong. Strong drink, strong convictions, strong odor, and strong flavor also manifest part of the Urus essence. The key is in the adjective: strong. In this case, it is a matter of potency.

The circus strongman entertains by performing feats of great strength. He is thought of differently than a boxer. Rarely is a boxer described as strong. The usual word for a good boxer is powerful. There is a difference. In our language, there are nuances which impart different meanings to strength and power. The feeling is that strength is more akin to things like lifting, whereas power is a matter of projecting force outward. Urus is the strength side of the equation. Again, examine this idea in the context of things that are defined as strong.

What is in a word? In the case of Urus, strong is one word that puts it into perspective.
