Perdra Randomness

Yesterday I briefly mentioned that the randomness within Perdra is different from that within Hagal. The randomness of Hagal is a matter of distribution. One could liken Hagal’s random aspect to a handful of objects thrown in the general direction of its targets. Perdra’s is very different.

In divination, we try to minimize any random factor. That does not alter the fact that there is randomness within Perdra. It is the randomness within Wyrd and within our own experiences. If Life ran strictly Cause to Effect, we could predict with 100% accuracy. Divination would be unnecessary. There would be few surprises.

Of course, there is a cross current and colliding streams running concurrently with “Cause to Effect.” These provide the variables, the unpredictable elements, the random factor, the money wrench in the works and the unexpected good luck. They are the reason we cannot forecast the future well without the use of divination.

There are cases where things that seem random on one level are perfectly in order on a higher level. Though it does not seem to apply to most random incidents, it explains how things that may appear random on the surface might actually be orderly consequences. A look from another level or angle may reveal order where before we had seen only chaos.

Those of us living in this world may think we see chaos and disorder. If we look deeper, we find that there is a regularity and order to events. For the most part, Perdra’s actions are reasonable. They tend to follow the general stream of Cause to Effect. However, this orderly Rune still has a random factor which must be respected. Whether these unusual events are the result of a higher level of order or the crossweave of Wyrd or some other cause, the bottom line is that they can upset the proverbial apple cart. Even in the most orderly universe, there are surprises.
