A New Year

The whole matter of the New Year and its numbering is a convenience. Every culture has its calendar and its own New Year. Most begin with some event in their respective histories, from the founding of a dynasty to the mythic creation of the world. Our current calendar purportedly hails to the birth year of a mythical Middle Eastern holy man. It has gained worldwide acceptance as a standardized calendar for business reasons. In its way, it is as mythic a calendar as any other.

New Years Day is itself arbitrary. The change from one year to the next is marked by wild celebrations. Nonetheless, it is only another number denoting another period of time.

People enter the New Year with high hopes and expectations. After a few weeks they resign themselves to the reality that the New Year is just a continuation of the one before it.

The New Year will be better if you act to make it better. There is no magickal calendar sprite that makes one year a blast and the other a bust. The blast or bust is up to you. What kind of year do you want?

What are you willing to do to have the kind of year that you want?

In the end, the hope of the New Year is YOU!

A change in calendar numbers is an excuse for a big annual party. A change in yourannual experiences comes not with a number, but from your own choices and actions. You are your New Year, for good or ill. Take the opportunity to make it your masterpiece!
