Isa Rune Skating

As tomorrow’s lesson will be the Isa Rune, it is fortuitous that a cold front is covering the nation. Isa is a Rune of cold temperatures. Today’s weather is not icy, just wet. We are fortunate here that the wet ground did not turn to ice overnight.

In early Winter and early Spring, the Isa and Sig Runes are in conflict. Isa freezes and hardens while Sig thaws and softens. If Isa refreezes the melt, it becomes like a sheet of glass. It is even harder to traverse because it is more slippery than before.

About forty five years ago, rain had flooded part of the yard about two inches deep. It created a massive puddle. The ground had been sodden from a week of rain. Before the water could seep into the ground, a cold front came in. The water froze quickly. The result was our own little ice skating rink. My aunt was the first to seize on the situation. Soon all of us were out there. The little rink lasted about two bone-chilling but fun days.

Here is my first object lesson delivered personally by days of rain and a cold weather front. Isa can create a temporary opportunity. Its effects are not supposed to last. The trick for us is to exploit the opportunity while we can. An impromptu ice skating rink is a very material example of the Isa Rune in action.
