The Great Secret to Magickal Expertise
The secret to magickal expertise is this: study, meditate and get intimate with the power sources of your particular tradition. Be they the Runes, the Elements, Planets, Tarot symbols or whatever else, spend at least five minutes morning and evening to meditate on them. Do one at a time.
Come to appreciate your power sources. Look for examples of their working in your everyday experience. You will find places where different power sources manifest strongly.
You will also want to develop skill in magickal techniques that use the power sources. These may be anything from metaphysical treatment to spoken spells to mental techniques. All you need are two or three techniques that you can use. Work at them in conjunction with your work with the power sources.
The trick here is not to study wide, but to study deep. Better one technique and one power source thoroughly understood than a handful that are partially comprehended.
If you do this, you will have the skill and versatility that comes from deep understanding. Unlike most folks who read many books on magick, you will be able to actually do it. In three to five years, you will be a superb magician.
Keep in mind that each power source is both a power and an operating principle. It is the thing, the essence, and the way it works.
To actually use magick effectively, you do not need volumes of books. You do not need hours of classes. All you need is to get intimate knowledge of your power sources and how they work. You also need to develop two or three techniques that allow you to use the power. This is the secret to having genuine magickal power.
Do you want to be able to talk about it, or do you want to be able to use it?
It is simple, but it takes consistent, diligent work. If you do the work, you can expect the results.
