Ride the Tide
There are times to strive and times to rest. In our current economic situation, neither works very well. Many people’s hard work has been negated by the diminishing of their investments. The stock market dips and drops, teetering on economic Depression. Whether we strive or rest, our financial health is endangered.
This is a time to ride the tide. We do not know how long this recession will last. We do not know if it will continue to plummet, level off, rise or fluctuate wildly. That being the case, it is time to do as large ships do during a hurricane at sea. When hurricanes approach, the Navy sends it largest ships out to sea. They head for deep water away from possible obstacles, seal every door and porthole, and ride it out. If they stayed in port, they might crash into piers and other ships. At sea, they are least likely to experience damage, or to damage other ships. In the economic rough seas and storms of today, we also have to ride out the storm.
We cannot rest in port or hope to fight the storm. This is a time to streamline ourselves and ride the tide. Once the storm passes, we are free to resume our course. We might not be where we wanted to be, and we might not be in perfect shape, but at least we can start where we left off.
