The Gods are Friends
Our Gods are not oversized men and women who have mysterious powers. They are symbolized that way in the myths. However, the real nature of the Gods is spiritual. They transcend us in every way. They are inestimably greater than us in every way.
One area we need to address is that of understanding. Just as people can be understanding of the frailties of others, so the Gods are understanding of our faults and foibles. The Gods are not fierce, demanding tyrants. They wish us well in the truest sense of the word. As such, the Gods do not hold our mistakes and shortcomings against us. These are not petty, punishing deities.
The Gods do not become jealous if you favor one over others. They are all there for you, no matter which ones you call on most.
The Gods do not have disputes with each other. They work together. You cannot play one God against another. They are always “on the same page.”
The Gods are part of the forward motion of Life. They are the powers behind the evolution of Life. As such, they want to work with you to your benefit and theirs. The good of the Gods is the good of the people. (This is one of the lessons of the Ase Rune.)
The Gods have no concept of sin, salvation or atonement. They do not tally all your wrongs in a big ledger book. They do not have a Judgment Day where all the sins are counted, and the bad folks are sent to a fire pit. Since you are your soul, there is nothing to sell or save. You do not have to act like a penitent monk to get in the good graces of the Gods, no matter what wrongs you have done. They will help you overcome your wrongs if you ask for their guidance.
Your place in the next world (afterlife) already exists. There are others there who love you and care for you. “Heaven and hell” is someone else’s myth, not a reality.
Sin, salvation and atonement are foreign theological concepts based on the misconception that mankind is somehow innately “sinful” and “unworthy.”
The Gods want to help you. All you have to do is reach out. They will handle the rest. You are worthy of their friendship. Give them a chance to show you.
