Real Faith
Faith is not just a religious concept. It is also part of our everyday language. “Keep the faith” “…in good faith…” “Have faith!” These are all colloquial expressions describing faith.
We are aware of the Christian type faith which urges people to believe before they have proof. It is the kind of faith that dares not question that which it purports to believe. That kind of faith is called “blind faith.” It has not seen that which it believes.
To believe without proof is in direct opposition to common sense.
The Heathen type of faith knows why it believes. It has had proof that its belief is justified. There is no “pie in the sky”. Heathen faith requires results.
Here is a funny example. Imagine that two fat guys stand on a picnic table. Right there, you can have faith that if that table supports their prodigious weight, it will support the plates and bowls and condiments for a picnic. You have proof that it can hold a much greater weight without strain. You know why you believe.
The same goes for faith in people. Our faith in others is based on knowing them. Based on their past actions, we can have faith in some folks to do well, and in others to make a mess of things. We do not have faith in strangers because we do not know them.
Real faith knows what it believes. It has had adequate proof to justify belief. Anything less is gullibility.
