Better is possible
All of the better attributes can be learned. A person can learn to be honest, fair and courageous. Granted that it may be a tough road, with many setbacks, but it can be done. The trick to it is to consciously start behaving in the manner you desire. Success comes gradually, in little dribs and drabs. Just try being more honest, for instance. Make an effort to be a little more fair, and take time to learn about courage.
Though principles of justice and truth and bravery are discussed as absolutes, in everyday life they are not so. Honesty, justice and such are relative. For instance, a person does not become 100% honest overnight. Honesty is a growing thing. Developing it demands that a person try to be more honest each day. It is that simple, BUT it is not easy.
There are many people who grew up in environments that discouraged principles. Dishonesty, deceit, cowardice and other such things were the way of life in such places. These people are not condemned to remain at the bottom end of life. They can change. In fact, it happens all the time. There are many who have made the difficult trek from slime to sublime.
If you feel you do not embody the right principles, take hope. You can learn it. You can work to become better and better each day. The thing that will keep you on track is your desire for it. If you want to be a better person more than you want the trappings of your old life, you can do it. Take faith ,take heart. Nobody needs to be hopeless. All it takes is desire and the willingness to make the effort.
