Asking for Help

Nobody can know everything.

I received an object lesson in this today. The spring on our garage door broke. We cannot open the door. Though I am handy with carpentry, roofing, replacing faucets and other household tasks, this one evades me. I cannot get the door up, and that is what it would take to move the spring back.

This is one of those times that I am going to have to get help.

None of us can do everything. We all have our abilities. We all have things we cannot do. No person has the time to learn everything well enough to do it. That is why there are specialized occupations. We can look in the phone book and see plumbers and carpenters, physicians and electricians, barbers and mechanics. When any of us cannot do the job, it is time to call the folks who can. Calling for help is a reasonable response to an impossible situation.

We can each be self-reliant to a point. Every one can learn to use basic hand tools for minor repairs and improvements. However, there are things which one self cannot do. That is the time to get help. A wise individual knows when the situation warrants assistance.

And now I must find someone who can fix my garage door.
