Quality, Indeed!
In our world of mass-produced goods, mediocrity is common. Many succumb to the attitude of “good enough will do.” They feel no incentive to do better than average. Their output is, at best, satisfactory.
What happened to better?
I was thinking of this while making some items today. I am meticulous in this work. While adding detail to an item, I noticed a slight flaw. The customer would probably never have noticed it. Even if he did, he probably would not fuss over it. Nonetheless, I made sure to fix it right away. The product is not some mediocre mass-produced thing. It is a handmade item, and whether the customer notices or not, it has to be right.
How many things out there have this same kind of quality?
How many people today care to get it right, even if it will not be noticed?
Part of making a difference is quality. We can point to quality insofar as an item we might make. Quality is born of the urge to make things better. How about quality in the other things we do? Each of us needs ask if he or she is leading a quality life. That does not mean a life of extravagance, but a life where “better” is a guiding concept. Quality is not something we buy. It is something we become.
Quality chooses to do better, even if nobody is looking.
And there one finds another key to a life that makes a difference.
