The News (Lesson or Humor?)
Audrey and I went out today to get the newspaper. They were out of newspapers at our usual stop, so we went another store. On the way, we decided we needed something from the local “big box” hardware store. Off we went to get it. It was then we decided that as the Mall was nearby, we could also get a replacement filter for the refrigerator.
Our first stop was to get a filter for the refrigerator. That store is in the Mall, and after getting the filter, Audrey decided to look for socks. They were a specific type. We went to the first department store and up the escalator. Audrey went to the hosiery department. Alas, they did not have her socks.
We proceeded further down the Mall to another store. After running hither and yon to find the right department, we discovered that they did not have her socks.
There was one last store at the far end of the mall, and that is where we went. We had to go up an escalator and through several departments to find the right one. They had the socks. Finally. Audrey paid for them and we left the Mall.
Next we went to the hardware store to get that last item. From there, we headed home.
Just as we pulled into the driveway, we realized that we forgot to get the newspaper. Aaagh! Off we went….
Newspapers and hardware and filters are one thing. The moral of the story is in the socks. Sometimes things turn up in the first place you look, and sometimes they turn up elsewhere. Then there are times that you look in every place, but they turn up in the last place you would expect to find them. There are those instances where the only way to get what you need is a trek to the end of the line.
When you seek, hope it is in the first place, not the last place.
And whether first, last or middle, don’t forget the newspaper.
