A Successful Priority

It is a wonder how some folks are not committed to their own success. A prime example is politics. How many times have we seen a political party shave its advantage to satisfy the “old boy” obligations? Rather than run candidates who can win, they choose folks based on party loyalty or favoritism. It should be no surprise that they lose.

What is more important: winning or keeping old party hacks happy?

Politics illustrates an important point. The only way to assure success is to put everything into winning. Success must be the first, the primary and the paramount consideration. Anything else must be a distance second.

Look at professional sports. How often are teams hamstrung by player rivalries, coaching problems, grandstanding and other internal friction? Many times we see great teams lose to lesser clubs. The team is not focused on winning, but is distracted by petty concerns within the clubhouse.

The lesson is simple: success must be the first concern. For a competitive organization, nothing can come before winning. The same can apply to any of us. When we let something else take priority over success, we give away our chance to achieve our goal. Success is a matter of priority.

Put things in order. If you must succeed, then do not hamstring yourself by letting other concerns get in the way. Put first things first. Achievement of any kind comes when it is given first priority.
