The Rich Guy

Have you ever felt envious of another’s prosperity? I have heard folks speak resentfully of those who are wealthy. I have heard people gripe over individuals who made themselves immensely rich through their own efforts.

There are folks who deserve to be rich. They earn it and use it. They have the talent and luck to make immense fortunes. You know darn well that they live comfortably amid extravagant surroundings. Does that bother you? It should not.

The other side of the coin is that these people create opportunity. Because they are wealthy and because they continue to do the things that made them rich, thousands of people benefit. These rich people create all kinds of job opportunities. Every time they start a new enterprise, from a building project to a new product line, they make an opportunity for others to profit.

Consider a building project. It requires architects and engineers to plan it. Next come surveyors, and then legal teams needed to secure permits. The project will require all kinds of workers: laborers, ironworkers, masons, pipe fittters, plumbers, electricians, roofers, crane operators and riggers. There will also be jobs for truckers bringing supplies to the jobsite, and jobs for folks who make and ship the steel, concrete, wire, pipe, etc. Next come the marble and tile workers and the folks who do decorative metalwork, plus the glaziers and folks who install fixtures. Finally there are the people who manage the building, the janitors, heating, power plant workers, doormen and maintenance men, the rental agents, building managers and staff. Let us not forget the secondary effect of people hired by renters to staff offices in the building, and the folks who work in the retail stores on ground level.

What of it were a casino instead of a skyscraper? Along with the construction and maintenance personnel, there would be croupiers, dealers, pit bosses, service personnel, waitresses, waiters, bartenders, porters, floor men, tellers, money counters, cooks, dish washers, etc, etc.

All of these people have the opportunity to profit because one man acquired massive wealth. More people will profit as the rich man initiates more projects. His success means increased prosperity for thousands.

Instead of being jealous, we ought to be grateful that the wealth is in the hands of someone who creates opportunity. Jealousy of the rich is a poverty attitude. Appreciating those rich folks who create opportunity is prosperous thinking. When you think prosperously, you open the door for greater quality in your own life.
