Another Horse Story
Here is the other horse story that illustrates training the mind. I learned this one many years ago. It shows how one may replace old habits with newer, better ones.
A farmer had a house at the beginning of the lane. He rode home every day, and his horse knew the route. The farmer did not have to steer the horse, as it knew the way home and went there automatically.
The farmer sold his farm and bought the larger one at the far end of the lane. When coming home, his horse automatically went to the old farm at the beginning of the lane. The farmer had to work hard to steer the horse to the new farm. At first, he had to use more effort to steer the horse. After a while, it was easier and easier to steer the horse to the far end of the lane. Eventually, the horse went to the new farm on its own.
Once again, this is an analogy for retraining the subconscious and for instilling good habits. The horse is the inner mind / subconscious, and the farmer is the intellect. To retrain or recondition yourself, you must firmly “take the reins.” In time, as your training progresses, you can relax a little. This is very appropriate to learning magick and tradition. It takes time to get comfortable with both, but through regular and consistent effort, it will be done.
