The Horse

I wrote this story many years ago, and have taught it ever since. It tells about conditioning your inner mind.

Imagine if someone gave a man great thoroughbred horse. The man was expected to train that horse to race. The problem was that the man had never trained a horse in his life. It took him a lot of time and effort, and more than a few scrapes and bruises. He eventually got to the point where he could ride the horse and get it to trot.

The man realized something was wrong, so he hired a professional trainer. The professional was surprised to see such a wonderful horse with such poor training. He began the process of change. The hard part was trying to “train out” all the mistakes and replace them with good training. The horse resisted its new training for a little while. Eventually it started to go with the new training. From that point onward, improvement was considerable. The horse accepted the good training, and soon was performing at its best.

Your inner mind is like that horse. For years, you have trained your mind in a haphazard, hit or miss way. Once you begin dedicated spiritual and magickal training, a better kind of thing takes hold. However, it must first “train out” your old conditioning. There may be some resistance at first. However, once the good work takes hold, your inner mind starts working in harmony with it.

It takes time to remove all that poor, unpleasant conditioning and replace it with healthy patters. Like the mis-trained horse, we first must overcome the old bad habits. These have to be replaced by progressive patterns of thought. Next ,we can accelerate our training as our minds take hold of the better input.
