Western Figures by Merten

The Berlin-based Merten company produced a variety of figures.  It is best known for its Medieval 40mm figures.  However, no German figure maker would pass up the lucrative genre of the American West.  German children were fascinated with the West, thanks to novels by Karl May and imported Hollywood films. Merten produced a fanciful 40mm range of Cowboys and Indians. It is typical of German sets depicting the American West.

The German fascination with the American West is evident here.  Rifleman to left has a broken firearm.

"Tied to the stake" - unusual pieces that figure in German-made Western sets. Most of the Western figures from Germany are inspired by the fiction of Karl May.
